Job summary

The City of Billings is seeking a Criminal Deputy City Attorney for the Domestic Violence Unit to perform a full range of legal services for municipal government operations. You will represent the City in criminal proceedings, investigate and prosecute misdemeanor cases, and advise City departments and boards on criminal issues.

Requirements include a Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved school, Montana bar membership, licensure in MT state and federal courts, and the ability to pass background

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from ABA-approved law school.
• Active Montana law license and good standing.
• Licensed to practice in MT state and federal courts.
• Must pass Federal and State background check.

Responsibilities

• Represents the City by prosecuting various misdemeanor criminal offenses.
• Initiates prosecutions and prepares cases for prosecution.
• Reviews reports, conducts legal research, and drafts pleadings.
• Tries cases and determines appropriate sentences.
• Provides legal advice to City employees, staff, boards, and commissions.
