Job summary

Ravalli County Attorney's Office seeks a Deputy Attorney - Criminal Prosecutor to prosecute misdemeanors in Justice Court and felonies in District and Youth Court. Responsibilities include reviewing investigations, drafting subpoenas and warrants, making charging decisions, and handling discovery and trials.

The role requires strong courtroom advocacy, integrity, and the ability to manage a full caseload. Compensation is DOE with full benefits/PERS in Montana.

Qualifications

• Ability to adhere to strict standards of confidentiality.
• Ability to provide legal representation in jury and non-jury trials and other court proceedings.
• Ability to present oral and written arguments, and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to analyze investigations and make charging decisions.
• Ability to draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and complex legal documents.
• Knowledge of criminal procedure, laws, and rules of evidence.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute misdemeanor crimes in Justice Court and felony crimes in District Court and Youth Court.
• Review investigations and draft subpoenas and search warrants.
• Make charging decisions and draft charging documents; produce timely discovery.
• Conduct negotiations and trial preparation including witness interviews.
• Prepare pre-trial motions and conduct hearings; handle coroner inquests, jury and non-jury trials.
