Qualifications

• Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and procedures.
• Constitutional law and the Oklahoma constitution; agency policies and procedures.
• Trial and hearing procedures; rules of evidence; legal research and writing.

Responsibilities

• Performs case management activities at all phases of direct appeals in the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals; maintains files of pleadings and orders.
• Communicates with client on plea negotiations, post-judgement proceedings, and informs decisions per agency policy.
• Conducts investigations and gathers evidence to support guilt or innocence and sentencing.
• Prepares for trial by filing pretrial motions, developing defense strategy, and coordinating experts.
• Conducts ongoing legal research and briefs arguments on motions.
• Prepares for jury selection with questions and challenges to identify suitable jurors.
• Preserves legal error for appellate review and may serve as Co-Counsel as assigned.
• Provides consultation and support to other attorneys and staff; performs related administrative duties.
