State of Oklahoma is seeking a full-time Defense Counsel in the Non-Capital Trial Division, Cleveland County office. The role supports indigent clients in state court trials, including felony, misdemeanor, juvenile delinquency, traffic and wildlife cases, with zealous advocacy and informed decisions.

The position requires a Juris Doctorate, Oklahoma Bar eligibility or admission, and travel as needed. The salary starts at $68,700 and is commensurate with qualifications and agency scale.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree and active membership in the State Bar of Oklahoma, or eligibility for admission.
• Or applicants should be scheduled to take the Oklahoma Bar Exam.
• Must abide by the Oklahoma Rules of Professional Conduct and travel as required.

Responsabilités

• Performs case management activities with complete and accurate pleadings and orders.
• Communicates with clients about plea negotiations and post-judgment proceedings.
• Investigates case facts and evidence to determine guilt or innocence and potential sentences.
• Prepares for trial, files pretrial motions, and develops defense strategy with client input.
• Conducts legal research and briefs motions; assists with jury selection and trial prep.
• Provides consultation and support to other attorneys and staff; performs administrative duties as needed.
