Job summary

Orting School District in Washington is seeking a Substitute Teacher (Certificated) to provide instruction in an assigned classroom when the regular teacher is absent. The substitute will implement district curriculum and foster a positive learning environment for all students.

Must hold a Washington teaching certificate with the appropriate endorsement, maintain licensure, and complete the district's employment application and background check.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with appropriate educational endorsement.
• Valid Washington State teaching certificate with endorsement.
• Completed employment application and successful background check upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Assess the needs of the students and provide a suitable learning environment to meet their needs.
• Maintain order in the classroom and ensure a caring, safe learning environment, with clear routines and procedures designed to minimize disruption and maximize student on task time.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Maintain safe and healthful conditions in the classroom and report promptly to the principal any serious accident or illness affecting students in the classroom.
• Provide instruction in assigned classroom implementing lesson plans provided by the teacher.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or students groups involved.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
• Supervises students in hallways, at recess or busses as scheduled, and as assigned during extraordinary or emergency situations.
• Maintains confidentiality assuring that all students, staff and parents right to privacy is ensured.
