Location
100% On‑Site. The position is year‑round, in‑person, school‑based. Impact Managers are required to work in the schoolhouse at least 4 days a week, and are expected to support two schools. They must be available for afterschool programming.
Position Overview
The Impact Manager oversees the daily operations and achievement of teams of 6–18 Student Success Coaches (SSCs). They coach their SSC teams through learning, reflection, and service to build civic capacity, civic identity, and leadership skills. Reporting directly to an Impact Director, the Impact Manager collaborates with the Impact Department and other City Year colleagues to meet department and organizational goals. They also curate and support transformational school partnerships, community, and external stakeholder relationships to promote and sustain the site.
Job Description
• Lead, manage, and coach up to two SSC teams (ages 18‑25) through the year of service.
• Coach SSCs on tutoring support, academic and personal development activities, and compliance with training, timesheets, and hours.
• Facilitate coaching and feedback through SOY, MY, EOY plans, bi‑weekly check‑ins, and weekly team meetings.
• Recruit, support, and develop returning SSCs.
• Observe service implementation and provide targeted feedback.
• Lead Service Learning Institute, Mid‑Year Summit, and other trainings.
Service Implementation – 25%
- Develop and manage school partnerships to ensure resources for SSC delivery.
- Coach SSC teams on City Year’s Whole School Whole Child service model.
- Monitor student‑level data to identify trends and improve interventions.
- Maintain SSCs’ adherence to CY values and policies.
- Oversee data collection (intervention, assessments, Early Warning Indicator reports).
- Train and support the team for a safe afterschool program.
- Oversee afterschool program implementation with the Team Leader/Second Year Corps Member.
School Partner Management – 20%
- Communicate with school partners regarding absences and scheduling.
- Collaborate on Whole School Whole Child implementation plans.
- Lead weekly partnership check‑ins with designated liaisons.
- Participate in school leadership meetings and professional development.
- Follow CY and school partner emergency protocols, including mandated reporting.
Teacher Relationships
- Support teacher relationships through planning and implementation of teacher meetings.
- Help SSCs maintain meaningful relationships with teachers.
- Communicate City Year updates to teachers.
- Have SSCs attend grade group and teacher meetings as appropriate.
Organizational Initiatives, Site and Impact Support – 25%
- Develop external partnerships and recruit candidates within Norristown.
- Collaborate with Impact Directors on initiatives.
- Participate in Impact Department working groups for service improvements.
- Attend required trainings and site‑wide events.
- Support site‑wide goals (SSC applicant interview, stakeholder engagement, event participation).
- Handle additional responsibilities as needed.
What You’ll Bring
- High school degree or GED required. Bachelor’s degree or 2 additional years of experience preferred.
- 2‑4+ years of direct team management experience with high expectations and accountability.
- Developed talent through performance plans, reviews, and leadership opportunities.
- Used progress and outcome data for team management.
- Work in education or social service programs preferred.
- High personal accountability, reliability, and integrity.
- Knowledge of large urban education systems and the Norristown, PA community.
- Commitment to community service, national service, or youth leadership development.
- Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong initiative, tenacity, flexibility, and experience in high‑need environments.
- Experience setting up effective team structures and delegating effectively.
- Track record of building and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
- Travel required within and around Greater Philadelphia; reliable transportation required.
