Overview
The Impact Manager (IM) is responsible for driving the successful implementation of the Whole School Whole Child (WSWC) service model by building and cultivating strong school partnerships and developing a team of committed, idealistic leaders and school practitioners in a 2:1 service model, meaning each Impact Manager serves two schools. The IM plays a crucial role in leading a team of AmeriCorps members (ACM) through a ten‑month journey of learning, reflection, and service in schools.
Responsibilities
- Service Impact Delivery
- Oversee the execution of City Year’s WSWC Tier 1 supports and Tier 2 interventions in two schools.
- Oversee the implementation of whole‑school and classroom service, including instructional support, thematic events, culture, and climate.
- Provide structure and a common understanding of the service model between HQ, the site, ACMs, and service partners.
- Create clear, realistic, and measurable objectives for accomplishing WSWC goals.
- Capture best practices and share them with the larger City Year community of practitioners.
- Analyze and use data from teacher and ACM surveys, student, school, and district‑level data, and classroom observations to explain trends, identify opportunities, and improve interventions.
- Oversee one of seven coordinator role positions that ACMs execute, covering Attendance, English, Math, Extended Learning, Socio‑Emotional Learning, and Resource In‑kinding.
- Corps Impact Delivery
- Guide ACMs to meet performance requirements and leadership development potential.
- Inspire ACMs to embrace a culture of power and idealism using City Year leadership tools, team‑building exercises, and best practices.
- Use performance management tools to set expectations, identify strengths and development opportunities, and partner with each ACM on a growth plan.
- Ensure ACMs are committed to student success and meet City Year standards.
- Support managers of alumni AmeriCorps members and Team Leaders to empower them to lead ACM teams.
- Effectively translate information from various stakeholders so ACMs understand and feel empowered.
- Partner Impact Delivery
- Build and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders to enhance service performance.
- Build strong partnerships with school leaders and other decision makers, crafting solutions that align with City Year WSWC outcomes.
- Maintain a strong school presence by cultivating key relationships.
- Use student data strategically to gain support for initiatives and interventions.
- Coach ACMs on developing productive partnerships with teachers and support staff.
- Help cultivate strategic community relationships and access community resources for program support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Urban Studies, Youth Work, or related field preferred; experience in management, non‑profits, community service, youth work, or education acceptable.
- Proven relationships and experience working with Chicago Public Schools or as a contracted provider.
- Experience working with principals, assistant principals, and teachers, including handling partnership accountability and difficult conversations.
- Previous experience leading individuals and teams to achieve goals.
- Experience coaching young adults and working with diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with active listening skills.
- Demonstrated organizational, project, and financial management capabilities.
- Strong problem‑solving, time, and project management skills; ability to prioritize projects and assess deploy resources.
- Ability to execute a strategic plan and motivate staff.
- Willingness to take on new challenges, pursue self‑development, and self‑directed learning.
- Ability to work as an independent leader and as a team member in a collaborative environment.
- Proficiency in computer skills (e.g., MS Office) and experience using databases to document service work.
- City Year, AmeriCorps, or Peace Corps experience is a plus.
- Passion for working with youth, developing young leaders, national service, and education reform.
- Strong connection to City Year mission.
