Job summary

Avivar Capital, LLC in the United States is seeking a Manager of Loan Underwriting to lead the Debt Capital Solutions function as it scales. You will oversee credit analysis, risk mitigation, and product development in a community-focused lending framework.

The role requires deep experience with affordable housing finance, NMTCs/LIHTCs/HTCs, and managing staff. You will partner across departments to improve processes while upholding Avivar’s commitment to racial equity and impact investing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
  • MBA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in complex real estate lending and underwriting, including affordable housing.
  • Demonstrated experience with deal structuring and risk mitigation.
  • Proven experience leading staff and managing a department or program.
  • Familiarity with NMTCs, LIHTCs, HTC, and PRIs in community real estate financing.
  • Experience and/or interest in CDFIs, impact investing, and community/economic development.
  • Proven ability to cultivate diverse relationships with lenders, investors, philanthropic organizations, and government agencies.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional client management and client service skills.
  • Experience living/working in communities served by Avivar; commitment to racial/economic equity.
  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytic abilities.
  • Willingness to travel ~1 week per month; must reside in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Avivar’s underwriting team with rigorous loan analysis.
  • Oversee underwriting across loan and catalytic capital programs.
  • Partner with senior leadership on loan structuring and risk mitigation.
  • Provide coaching and development to underwriting staff.
  • Collaborate with business development, loan administration, and portfolio management teams.
  • Drive strategies to meet annual lending and capital deployment goals.
  • Maintain relationships with lending partners, CDFIs, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to budgeting, revenue planning, and staffing needs.
