Job summary

Pocahontas County Schools is seeking an athletic program assistant to support the Head Coach in leadership, instruction, supervision, and compliance with WVSSAC regulations. This role emphasizes the educational, physical, social, emotional, and character development of student-athletes.

The position requires WV coaching authorization, background check, and current CPR/First Aid. The coordinator will work to maintain program standards and collaborate across school staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Valid WV Department of Education Coaching Authorization, or documented eligibility to obtain authorization.
• Successful fingerprint-based background check per WVBE Policy 5209 and county requirements.
• Completion of WVSSAC and NFHS coaching education courses (Concussion in Sports, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Heat Illness Prevention).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
• Ability to maintain annual authorization and certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support and assist the Head Coach in leading, instructing, and supervising the athletic program.
• Promote sportsmanship, integrity, teamwork, and academic achievement.
• Assist in administration and operation of the athletic program.
• Supervise student managers and other support personnel as assigned.
• Help implement program expectations, team rules, and disciplinary procedures.
• Maintain participation records and monitor student-athlete eligibility during extracurricular activities.
