Job summary

Florida Veterinary Medical Association seeks a dynamic Executive Director to lead a financially strong, nationally respected veterinary association. The role focuses on connecting with members, expanding continuing education, and advancing legislative advocacy in Florida.

As chief administrative officer, the ED will supervise staff, oversee budgets, and guide programs including Inspire and FVMA Foundation. Collaboration with the AVMA, state policymakers, and the Board of Governors is essential

Qualifications

  • Seven+ years of progressively responsible professional experience.
  • Five+ years of leadership experience in health care, business, or the veterinary industry.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a budget of at least $2 million and a team of at least 10.
  • Experience working with a membership or trade association.
  • Familiarity with legislative and regulatory advocacy.
  • Experience reporting to or serving on a board of directors.
  • Undergraduate degree required; MBA, JD, or DVM a plus.
  • Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation preferred or in progress

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the chief spokesperson for the FVMA and represent the association credibly.
  • Lead strategic planning and develop annual and long-term plans for growth and policy initiatives.
  • Oversee financial operations and budgets; provide reports to the Executive Board.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing staff culture aligned with goals and values.
  • Develop programs, continuing education events, and member services
  • Drive membership retention and growth through communication, advocacy, and programs.
  • Support the FVMA Foundation and Inspire programs to expand impact.
  • Identify non-dues revenue opportunities and oversee digital communications strategy.
  • Coordinate with the FVMA Political Action Committee; ensure compliance and fundraising strategy.
  • Engage with the VMAE network to stay current on best practices
