Job summary

New York Common Pantry in New York, NY seeks a Chief Program & Strategy Officer to lead all direct-service programs and impact strategy. Reporting to the CEO, this role shapes growth, policy engagement, and measurement, guiding food programs, social services, and research.

You will supervise senior leaders, develop dashboards, and partner across departments to ensure mission alignment, equity, and scalable service models while building collaborations with government and community stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (e.g., MS, MA, MSW, PhD) in public administration, social work, public policy, public health, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in human services, anti-poverty work, public health, community development, or a related nonprofit field.
• Significant experience managing complex programs, multiple departments, senior-level staff, and substantial budgets.
• Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organizational growth, and systems-level leadership.
• Experience working with government agencies, public funding, contracts, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong understanding of program evaluation, data analytics, and performance management.
• Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
• Commitment to NYCP’s mission and values of dignity, health, equity, and self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and oversight for all NYCP programs and services.
• Ensure high-quality, client-centered, equitable, and culturally responsive service delivery.
• Strengthen integration among programs to maximize client outcomes and access to services.
• Monitor program performance, quality, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
• Support program leaders in developing high-performing teams and strong management practices.
• Identify opportunities for innovation, expansion, and continuous improvement.
• Lead implementation of the programmatic components of NYCP’s strategic plan.
• Advise the CEO and Board on emerging community needs, trends, opportunities, and risks.
• Develop strategies that expand NYCP’s impact, geographic reach, partnerships, and service models.
• Lead planning related to program growth, new initiatives, and mission impact.
• Foster a culture that balances data-driven decision making with dignity-centered service delivery.
• Develop government affairs and public funding strategies and partnerships.
• Oversee research, evaluation, data analytics, and impact measurement functions.
