Position Information

Job Title: Impact Director (ID)
Number of Positions: 1
Location: Hybrid (On‑Site/Remote)

Overview

The Impact Director (ID) is responsible for the overall management of the day‑to‑day programmatic operations, ensuring the achievement of City Year’s mission and overall service excellence through the successful implementation of the Whole School Whole Child service model by managing and developing Impact Managers and corps members to build and cultivate strong school partnerships and developing a group of committed, idealistic leaders and school practitioners; the successful completion of transformational physical service days and volunteer engagement; and ensuring an impactful and inspirational corps experience as well as corps member development.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for this role include Impact Department strategy, school district management, data access and district agreements, evaluation, Impact Department budget management, and corps Volunteer experience. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the ID manages overall aspects of the school district partnerships. Primary responsibilities include ensuring a high level of quality, detail, and measurable impact with students off‑track from high school graduation. The ID works with site leadership and school partners to identify and communicate City Year Buffalo’s long‑term impact strategy to achieve long‑term impact goals. This includes determining potential new schools, developing education partnerships, and building sustainable district relationships. The ID is responsible for routine communication with key stakeholders in the schools as well as the Impact Managers. While day‑to‑day and school‑specific interactions with school partners will be owned by the Impact Managers, the Impact Director will work closely with these staff to make sure the message and implementation of service are aligned (especially the weekly/bi‑weekly Early Warning Indicator meetings). In addition, the ID is responsible for managing the Impact Department budget, which includes approving requests, managing spending strategy, and coordinating with the operations department to track spending.

Relationship Management

The Impact Director will play a leading role in guiding, motivating, and managing staff in a collaborative and community‑minded environment as well as sharpening and advancing the execution of the service model under the leadership of the Executive Director. The ID will be responsible for understanding the current education environment in the City of Buffalo & City Year Buffalo’s partner schools. The ID will work closely with the local City Year Partners point person(s) to make sure all goals are met, and local staff Volunteers feel informed and invested in the partnership. Additionally, the ID will identify and engage staff within our partner school to educate them about City Year Buffalo’s service and ways to support it. This will be accomplished by attending external meetings, joining community groups, work groups, and tracking media on education topics. The ID will communicate findings to the site’s leadership team to inform on new developments that may affect our education vision and service.

Service Product Development / Content Management

The ID will lead the development and execution of the site’s Whole School Whole Child strategy for product development and content management implementation, review, and evaluation. In collaboration with the Impact Team, the ID will take part in school observations, obtain feedback from Student Success Coaches, staff Volunteers and school partners, review best practices from City Year and education experts, and review City Year data. In addition, the ID will target areas of strength and improvement to promote to colleagues or to address through additional training and resources.

Volunteer Participation

The ID is expected to be an active Volunteer of the City Year national network by participating in conference calls, responding to e‑mails, and completing other tasks as necessary. The ID may also be asked to lead on select network initiatives.
