Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced immunologist/scientist to join its global competitive intelligence team. The role focuses on IBD insights to guide portfolio decisions and BD/L investments from Rahway, NJ or Upper Gwynedd, PA, in a hybrid work model.

The candidate should have a PhD or equivalent with extensive biotech/pharma experience, including 3–5+ years in IBD or related fields, and strong collaboration and strategic-thinking skills to drive insights across global teams.

Qualifications

• PhD or professional equivalent with 8+ years in biotech/pharma.
• 3–5+ years in IBD, immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, or immuno-oncology.
• Strong understanding of immunology indications and drug discovery processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert scientific, clinical, and commercial insights on IBD to inform portfolio prioritization and strategies.
• Partner with discovery, clinical, and BD&L teams to shape internal programs and opportunity assessments.
• Monitor evolving IBD landscapes and competitive intelligence for threats and opportunities.
• Lead deep-dives on competitor activities including go-to-market and benchmarking.
• Maintain awareness of healthcare environment matters, policy, regulation, and HTA considerations.
• Build a global network of SMEs to support strategic activities.
• Support competitive planning initiatives for products facing significant competitive events.
• Apply ethical and legal standards to CI activities.
