Job summary

TLC Hawaii seeks a paralegal to support immigration attorneys in casework research and preparation, helping clients secure status and keep families together. You will conduct legal research, draft documents, and manage case files while coordinating with clients and staff.

The role requires at least one year of law school coursework, strong communication, and excellent organizational skills in a Hawaii-based nonprofit setting with a focus on immigrant rights. Remote work is not expected.

Qualifications

• At least one year of law school experience or coursework completed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Excellent attention to detail and superb organizational skills.
• Ability to work with diverse colleagues and clients respectfully.
• Maintain client confidentiality and professional courtesy.
• Proactive, multitasking, and able to meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and legal case management software.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research using statutes, orders, cases, decisions, and regulations and provide key information to attorneys.
• Draft and organize pleadings, motions, oppositions, briefs, memos, and legal correspondence; keep case event records.
• Assist with filing documents in ECAS, JEFF, and Pacer and organize trial binders.
• Help prepare clients and witnesses for testimony and draft potential questions for direct and cross-examination.
• Provide reception duties, client screening, scheduling, and intake; coordinate meetings and calendaring.
