Job description

The Duty Paralegal on Immigration acts as the primary liaison between clients and their assigned paralegals. This role is crucial in ensuring smooth communication and efficient case management. The Duty Paralegal serves as the first point of contact for existing clients, providing up-to-date information on filed and active cases, recording important client information, and determining when calls need to be transferred to a paralegal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Liaison: Serve as the first contact for existing clients, providing timely updates on filed and active cases.
  • Information Recording: Accurately record important information provided by clients to ensure it reaches the assigned paralegal promptly.
  • Conflict Resolution: Diffuse conflicts and address client frustrations by providing clear explanations and solutions.
  • Documentation Access: Utilize real-time access to documentation and Docketwise to provide clients and paralegals with necessary action items.
  • Follow-Up Actions: Inform clients of required documents or information, update client addresses, and ensure paralegals send follow-up emails regarding client requests.
  • Call Management: Handle as many calls as possible to reduce call volume for paralegals, allowing them to work without disruption.
  • Data Tracking: Track all calls, including client/matter details, time spent on calls, notes, and resolution methods for data collection purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Paralegal certification or equivalent experience in immigration law.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a paralegal role, preferably in immigration law.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills, proficiency in using legal documentation systems (e.g., Docketwise), strong organizational abilities, and attention to detail.
