Job Title: Associate Attorney – Immigration Law (Removal Defense, Family-Based and Humanitarian Immigration)

Position Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000 – $90,000 per year, commensurate with experience

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney with immigration law experience to join our practice. This role offers the opportunity to take on meaningful casework in a supportive environment that values work-life balance and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and filing family-based immigration petitions, including family-based petitions, adjustment of status, consular processing, and waivers.
  • Represent clients at USCIS interviews and immigration court hearings.
  • Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
  • Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, provide updates, and address their concerns.
  • Represent clients in cases involving removal defense, asylum, cancellation of removal, VAWA, U visas, T visas, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS).
  • Provide representation for detained and non-detained clients in immigration proceedings.
  • Represent detained clients in ICE custody, including bond hearings and custody redetermination.
  • Accompany and represent clients at ICE check-ins.
  • Litigate habeas corpus petitions under 28 U.S.C. § 2241 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts challenging unlawful immigration detention.
  • Prepare clients for their master and individual hearings.
  • Review bond packages and represent clients before the immigration court in bond hearings.
  • Stay informed about changes in immigration laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to ensure efficient case management.
  • Participate in community events and know-your-rights presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and in good standing.
  • Minimum 2 years of legal experience in immigration law required.
  • Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts required.
  • Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire a plus.
  • Experience with removal defense, asylum, VAWA, U visas, and T visas.
  • Proven courtroom experience, particularly representing asylum seekers.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual Spanish required; knowledge of an additional language is a plus.
  • Comfortable and familiar with the use and operation of legal technology.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
