Job summary

Seneca Valley High School in Germantown is seeking an Immediate Security Assistant for an 8-hour/day, 10-month position to help maintain a safe, secure learning environment. Under the security team leader, you will screen visitor access and support attendance and safety operations.

The role requires flexibility, weekend work, and overtime as needed. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred; knowledge of safety procedures and investigative methods is expected.

Summary Description

Positions in this class are assigned to the local school to assist the administration maintain a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, assists in screening visitor access to school facilities, maintaining student class attendance, and other responsibilities related to school security operations. Receives guidance and assistance from the security team leader on the more difficult or unusual situations.

Physical Demands

Sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons; stamina to spend long periods of time walking and standing and to complete security patrol duties. Ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions.

Special Requirements

Required to work flexible hours, including weekends, as assigned by the principal/security team leader to provide maximum security coverage. Required to occasionally work overtime. Required to wear the designated security uniforms.

• Ability to work harmoniously with staff and students and to perform assigned tasks under team leader supervision.

Education Training Experience

• High School or GED diploma required.
• Associates degree preferred.
• College coursework in criminology, law enforcement, or related fields.
• Experience in work involving the welfare and safety of students or others, preferably in an educational environment.
• Experience in investigation desirable.
• Experience in safety and security of persons and property, preferably as a police officer.
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Certificate License

Possession of a valid Maryland class C noncommercial driver^s license, or equivalent. First aid and CPR certification.
