Job summary

Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS in Washington, DC seeks a compassionate Behavioral Aide to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Lower Elementary student with significant behavioral needs. The role requires current crisis-prevention/de-escalation certification and hands-on experience implementing behavior plans within a Montessori setting.

You will work under the IEP team and lead guide to help the student engage with Montessori curriculum safely, while promoting independence and appropriate

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.
• Current crisis-prevention/de-escalation certification required at time of hire.
• Direct experience with students with emotional/behavioral disabilities or similar needs.
• Experience implementing behavior plans and collecting behavioral data in a school setting.
• SSMA funds ongoing training, recertification, and professional development after hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to an assigned student throughout the instructional day.
• Implement the student's Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and IEP accommodations with fidelity.
• Support participation in Lower Elementary work cycle alongside peers.
• Apply Montessori principles of independence with boundaries and safety.
• Use de-escalation techniques to prevent escalations safely.
• Record behavioral data to support progress monitoring and IEP decisions.
• Collaborate with the Lower Elementary guide, SPED team, counselor, and service providers.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records per FERPA/IDEA.
• Communicate with family and support team as directed by the case manager.
• Participate in IEP meetings and required trainings.
