Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital is seeking IMC/PCU RNs to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to moderately complex patients requiring enhanced monitoring and clinical expertise.

This role is ideal for nurses who enjoy critical thinking, early intervention, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The IMC/PCU nurses will perform continuous cardiac monitoring, administer selected IV medications, and collaborate with physicians and teams for safe patient transitions.

Qualifications

• BSN required or currently enrolled.
• Current Washington, D.C. Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility.
• Prior acute care, telemetry, step-down, or critical care experience preferred.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS preferred (or required within a defined timeframe).
• Strong assessment, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Patient Care: Provide evidence-based nursing care to IMC/PCU patients with complex medical and surgical conditions.
• Monitoring: Perform continuous cardiac and physiologic monitoring, recognize early signs of deterioration, and intervene appropriately.
• Medication Management: Administer and titrate select IV medications and therapies in accordance with unit protocols.
• Collaboration: Partner with physicians, advanced practice providers, ICU teams, and ancillary services to ensure seamless patient care and safe transitions.
• Clinical Judgment: Apply strong assessment and decision-making skills to manage changes in patient condition and escalates care when needed.
• Advocacy: Support patients and families through education, communication, and compassionate care.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
• Education: Provide patient and family education related to diagnoses, treatment plans, and recovery goals.
• Quality & Safety: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold patient safety standards within the IMC/PCU.
