Job summary

Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, KS is seeking an Imaging Student Extern PRN to support radiology services under supervision. The role focuses on preparing for x-ray procedures, assisting with patient care, and gaining practical imaging experience while enrolled in an accredited radiography program.

You will learn to position patients, verify information, and communicate with patients and staff, while maintaining safety and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of Radiography.
• 1+ years of imaging education completed, or as mandated by state of practice.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between patients, physicians, and support team.
• Obtains patient histories and screens patients for factors/conditions that may affect the imaging procedure.
• Transports patients to and from the procedure area.
• Assists in preparing and positioning patients for procedures. Performs patient verification prior to procedure.
• Remains sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills. Provides basic patient care and comfort.
• Notifies Radiologic Technologist of any emergencies or concerns.
• Assists in imaging room setup and turnover between patients, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
• Assists with the maintenance and organization of radiology supplies.
• Performs clerical work as needed, including greeting patients and families, registration, filing, answering and transferring phones, and relaying messages.
• Maintains confidentiality of all patient care information to assure that patient’s rights are protected.
• Demonstrates an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
• Adheres to all facility safety practices.
• Participates in educational opportunities to develop optimal patient care, enhanced knowledge, and technical competence.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
