Job summary

Hilo Benioff Medical Center is seeking an Imaging Specialist I/II to perform diagnostic radiologic examinations and support imaging services across the lifespan. You will operate imaging equipment, ensure high-quality images, and coordinate with physicians, nurses, and staff to maintain timely patient care.

The role requires ARRT Radiography certification, a JRCERT-approved degree, and Hawaii licensure with BLS within six months.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a JRCERT-recognized program or equivalent experience.
  • ARRT Radiography certification required.
  • BLS certification required within six months of employment.
  • Current Hawaii Radiologic Technologist License.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic radiographic examinations and specialized imaging per orders and protocols.
  • Prepare and position patients; administer contrast media when required and explain procedures.
  • Operate and maintain imaging equipment; ensure image quality and timely PACS/EMR transfer.
  • Assist with procedures while following infection control and radiation safety guidelines.

Hilo Benioff Medical Center is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Imaging Specialist I/II to join our Imaging Services team. This position performs diagnostic radiologic examinations using advanced imaging equipment while ensuring high-quality patient care, safety, and compliance with departmental and regulatory standards. The Imaging Specialist I/II works closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and accurate diagnostic imaging services for patients across the lifespan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform diagnostic radiographic examinations and specialized imaging procedures in accordance with physician orders, department protocols, and quality standards.
  • Prepare and position patients for imaging procedures, administer contrast media as required, and ensure patients understand examination processes.
  • Operate and maintain imaging equipment, monitor image quality, and ensure timely transfer of images through PACS and electronic medical record systems.
  • Assist physicians and clinical staff with specialized procedures while adhering to infection control, radiation safety, and patient safety guidelines.
  • Collect and document pertinent clinical information, obtain informed consent when required, and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, continuing education, and cross-training opportunities to support departmental operations and patient care excellence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from a program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience.

Experience

  • Imaging Specialist I: No experience required
  • Imaging Specialist II: Six (6) months of progressively responsible professional imaging technologist experience demonstrating knowledge of diagnostic imaging procedures and techniques.

Certification

  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiography [ARRT(R)].
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six (6) months of employment.

Licensure

  • Current State of Hawaii Radiologic Technologist License as a Radiographer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience performing a variety of diagnostic and specialized imaging procedures.
  • Knowledge of PACS, electronic medical records, radiation safety practices, and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and patient care skills.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
