JOB DUTIES :This position is regional, located in the Radiology – Diagnostic department, also known as the Imaging Services department, of the Urgent Care at Po'ipū, part of the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua'i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai'i. The HHSC Kaua'i Region includes Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both designated as critical access hospitals (CAH), along with the Kaua'i Region Clinics and its affiliated entities.

The Imaging Services department is essential for providing accurate and timely diagnostic imaging to support patient care and treatment decisions. This department offers a wide range of imaging modalities, including X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and fluoroscopy, ensuring that clinicians have access to high-quality images for diagnosis and monitoring. The Radiology team is responsible for operating advanced imaging equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the department collaborates closely with providers to interpret imaging results, providing critical insights that inform clinical decision-making. By maintaining high standards of quality assurance, patient safety, and technological advancement, the Radiology-Diagnostic/Imaging Services department plays a vital role in enhancing patient outcomes and facilitating effective healthcare delivery.

Under the supervision of a higher-level Imaging Specialist, the Imaging Specialist II is responsible for independently performing a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing ionizing radiation-producing equipment and executing other duties as required. This includes transferring and photographing images, archiving, and performing appropriate protocols. The Imaging Specialist II provides all diagnostic and therapeutic services, including scheduled or emergency procedures, as necessary for the care and treatment of ambulatory patients. The position may involve rotating shifts, including work on weekends and holidays, standby and callback duty, and may require coverage at other facilities within the region.

The position reports to the Director of Imaging (Region), position number 61030, or their designee.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. Applicants are required to provide evidence of education, certifications, and licensures.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from an approved program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Relevant substitutions may be considered.

Excess work experience as described below in the experience requirement section or any other responsible professional work experience; which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree from an approved program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.

IMAGING EXPERIENCE :Six (6) months of progressively responsible professional imaging technologist/specialist experience, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of imaging procedures and/or techniques such as myelograms, arthrograms, etc., including the X-raying of areas of human anatomy such as the chest, skull, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and vascular system.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : None required.

CERTIFICATIONS:

• A current certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART) in Radiography (ARRT) (R) is required at the time of appointment.
• A current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) at the time of appointment.

LICENSURES:

• A current State of Hawai'i Radiologic Technology license as a Radiographer is required at the time of appointment.
• A current State of Hawai'i type #3 driver's license is preferred.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

• Successful completion of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with a certificate or associate degree and two (2) years of professional radiologic experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
• Excess work experience as described under the Imaging or Specialized Experience Requirement which provided knowledge, skills, and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
• Excess work experience as described under the Specialized Experience Requirement may be substituted for Imaging Experience on a year-for-year basis.

• KNOWLEDGE OF:operation of imaging equipment, radiation safety, departmental protocols, standard precautions, hospital policies and procedures, rules and regulations, government regulatory requirements, and accrediting standards, as well as the policies, procedures, and work rules of the work site; multiple/differing cultures.
• ABILITY TO:perform a wide range of services, function independently, and provide instruction regarding imaging procedures and radiation safety to lower-level staff and other healthcare providers; meet the specific needs of patients with various disabilities; retain emotional stability and maturity despite emotional and physical pressures; demonstrate the ability to use independent judgment and initiative; promote a positive, collaborative practice atmosphere; adhere to the ARRT Code of Ethics; and demonstrate skills, knowledge, and experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
• ABILITY SKILLS PREFERRED:oral and written communication skills, good observation skills, and the ability to recall and report/document a series of events accurately; positive attitude.
