Job summary

Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, Cambridge, MA, seeks a Senior Expert I/II, Data Science to lead AI-enabled image analysis in discovery. You will develop robust image analysis workflows, benchmark methods, and collaborate with wet-lab scientists to translate complex questions into rigorous analyses.

You will work in Linux/HPC, Python stack (PyTorch, Hugging Face, MONAI) and deliver scalable, reproducible pipelines for high-content imaging and biomedical phenotyping.

Qualifications

• PhD in computer science, AI, biomedical image analysis, or related field, with 3+ years of applied AI for bioimaging.
• Experience developing and validating image analysis algorithms for biological imaging, including segmentation, feature extraction, phenotypic profiling.
• Ability to work in Linux-based HPC/cloud environments with reproducible research, version control, testing, and data provenance.
• Strong communication and collaboration across biologists, engineers, and data scientists.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI-enabled image analysis strategies for complex biological imaging workflows with wet-lab scientists.
• Identify high-impact AI opportunities and define benchmarking strategies.
• Develop, validate, and deploy image analysis algorithms for cellular, organoid, tissue phenotypes in high-content data.
• Advance AI methods including deep learning and foundation models, and translate them into practical workflows.
• Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and platform teams to build reusable pipelines.
