Job summary

Novartis Group of Companies in Cambridge, MA, seeks a seasoned data scientist to lead AI-enabled image analysis within the Discovery Sciences Data Science team. You will deliver robust image-analysis workflows and advance method development, partnering with wet-lab scientists to translate biological questions into rigorous analyses.

The role requires a PhD with 3+ years in bioimaging AI, strong Python and deep-learning skills, and experience in segmentation and phenotypic profiling.

Qualifications

  • PhD in computer science, AI, machine learning, biomedical image analysis, computational imaging, data science, or a related field, with 3+ years of applied AI for bioimaging.
  • Experience developing and validating image analysis algorithms for biological or pharmaceutical research, with segmentation, feature extraction, phenotypic profiling, or representation learning on high-content data.
  • Designing benchmarking and evaluation strategies to compare image analysis methods and guide model selection.
  • Experience in Linux HPC, cloud, or large-scale data processing with reproducible research practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead AI-enabled image analysis strategies for complex biological imaging workflows with wet-lab scientists.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities and define benchmarking strategies for method selection.
  • Develop, validate, and deploy robust image-analysis algorithms for cellular, organoid, tissue phenotypes in high-content data.
  • Advance AI methods (deep learning, foundation models, embedding-based phenotyping) into scalable workflows.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, data engineering, and platform teams to create reusable workflows.
