Anakim Consulting Inc. in Sioux Falls, SD is hiring an Image Processing Engineer to support the Landsat program in partnership with NASA. You will develop high-performance image-processing software in C with Python support, optimize workflows, and enable scalable processing of large satellite imagery.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in software engineering, strong C and Linux skills, and experience with relational databases and Git. Familiarity with AWS and Postgres is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (CS/SE/CE/Math/Physics) required.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in C and Linux/Unix.
• Python familiarity and relational database experience.
• Experience with data-intensive processing and performance optimization.
• Experience with software development lifecycle practices and Git.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.

Job Description

Anakim Consulting Inc. is hiring an Image Processing Engineer to support mission-critical image processing for the Landsat program in partnership with NASA. In this role, you will develop and optimize high-performance image processing applications that empower scientists, government agencies, and organizations around the world.

Daily responsibilities include

• Work as part of a collaborative team of engineers and scientists supporting the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center.
• Design, develop, and maintain image-processing software components.
• Develop software primarily in C, with supporting development in Python.
• Optimize algorithms and workflows to reduce runtime and improve processing throughput.
• Design and maintain applications that write to and query relational databases.
• Develop solutions to ingest, process, and distribute large volumes of satellite imagery.
• Support cloud-based image-processing architectures and troubleshoot operational processing issues.
• Perform software planning, technical design, and unit/integration testing.

Basic Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship)
• Ability to obtain U.S. Government security access (Public Trust level)
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• 7+ years of professional experience in a software engineering role
• Proficiency in C programming and Linux/Unix expertise.
• Working knowledge of Python and experience interfacing with relational databases.
• Experience working with data-intensive processing systems and improving software performance.
• Demonstrated understanding of software development lifecycle practices and Git-based source control management.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• Ability to present technical information to technical and non-technical team members
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with digital image processing, remote sensing, or Earth observation.
• Background in scientific computing, mathematics, physics, or related scientific fields.
• Experience with cloud-native processing architectures, AWS cloud services, and Postgres databases.
• Experience with satellite ground-system operations.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development and documentation tools.
