Position Summary

The Controls Specialist Technician troubleshoots and maintains controls and electrical systems onsite. Documents issues and possible changes.

Responsibilities
  • Performs Allen Bradley (AB) PLC control-level issue diagnosis using ladder logic and Control View HMI.
  • Follows change management process and develops ad-hoc PLC ladder code changes using Rockwell RSLogix family IDE’s (5000 preferred).
  • Utilizes AutoCAD to review, develop, and maintain electrical schematic and conveyor layout drawings.
  • Conducts incident follow-up, root cause analysis, and documentation.
  • Documents control system and equipment configuration changes.
  • Mentors automation technicians, providing guidance and feedback to improve performance.
  • Completes assigned safety training.
  • Ensures compliance with safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • On-call availability as needed.
  • Must possess a passport along with the ability to travel to Canada and Mexico.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; prefer a 2-year professional electrical training degree or bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Allen Bradley (AB) PLC control-level issue diagnosis using ladder logic and Control View HMI.
  • At least 2 years of experience with AutoCAD for control layout design and schematics.
  • Proficiency in AB PLC processors (CompactLogix and ControlLogix preferred) and input/output modules. Familiarity with non-AB control systems including Siemens and Mitsubishi.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot various control components, including photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders.
  • Familiarity with PLC programs and adeptness at troubleshooting ladder logic, CPU back planes, I/O boards, counters, modules, devices, and communications modules (Ethernet).
  • Capability to execute assigned project tasks.
  • Strong reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and modifying mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Competency in utilizing SCADA systems and KPIs.
  • Ability to provide training to colleagues with lesser skills.
  • Accessibility to all levels and areas of the facility.
  • Interpretation and application of policies and procedures.
  • Project management experience.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
