Position Summary
The Controls Specialist Technician troubleshoots and maintains controls and electrical systems onsite. Documents issues and possible changes.
Responsibilities
Performs Allen Bradley (AB) PLC control-level issue diagnosis using ladder logic and Control View HMI.
- Follows change management process and develops ad-hoc PLC ladder code changes using Rockwell RSLogix family IDE's (5000 preferred).
- Utilizes AutoCAD to review, develop, and maintain electrical schematic and conveyor layout drawings.
- Conducts incident follow-up, root cause analysis, and documentation.
- Documents control system and equipment configuration changes.
- Mentors automation technicians, providing guidance and feedback to improve performance.
- Completes assigned safety training.
- Ensures compliance with safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- On-call availability as needed.
- Must possess a passport along with the ability to travel to Canada and Mexico.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; prefer a 2-year professional electrical training degree or bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Allen Bradley (AB) PLC control-level issue diagnosis using ladder logic and Control View HMI.
- At least 2 years of experience with AutoCAD for control layout design and schematics
- Proficiency in AB PLC processors (CompactLogix and ControlLogix preferred) and input/output modules. Familiarity with non-AB control systems including Siemens and Mitsubishi .
- Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot various control components, including photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, Servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders.
- Familiarity with PLC programs and adeptness at troubleshooting ladder logic, CPU back plains, I/O boards, counters, modules, devices, and communications modules (Ethernet).
- Capability to execute assigned project tasks.
- Strong reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in interpreting and modifying mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Competency in utilizing SCADA systems and KPIs.
- Ability to provide training to colleagues with lesser skills.
- Accessibility to all levels and areas of the facility.
- Interpretation and application of policies and procedures.
- Project management experience.
- Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office.
