Overview
InAlliance is a nonprofit that provides support to adults with developmental disabilities. We are seeking an Independent Living Skills (ILS) Instructor to teach daily living skills to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ILS Instructor provides case management, instruction, and support to help participants develop skills needed to live independently. The role involves participating in planning team meetings, providing hands-on training, and promoting self-sufficiency in activities of daily living, community involvement, and personal development.
Responsibilities
- Provide personalized instruction and support based on participants’ needs and goals.
- Develop and conduct creative, engaging activities tailored to each participant’s learning style and needs.
- Use various instructional techniques and resources to promote independence.
- Assist with assessments through information gathering and observation.
- Help develop individualized plans based on participant preferences, needs, and interests.
- Collaborate with outside agencies on available resources.
- Stay organized and manage weekly schedules based on participant needs.
- Maintain accurate records and complete paperwork promptly, according to assignments and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with internal and external parties.
- Maintain ongoing communication with each participant’s circle of support.
- Be flexible and able to accommodate changes to caseload and scheduling.
- Provide input at participant meetings as part of a planning team.
Qualifications
- Required Education and Experience
- Education: High School Diploma.
- Experience: At least two years of direct instructional experience with adults with IDD, preferably in an inclusive and integrated setting.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Preferred Education and Experience
- AA Degree in a related field.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Additional eligibility requirements
- Must be able to verify employment eligibility under USCIS I-9 requirements.
- Pre-employment screening after a conditional offer; consideration of qualified applicants including those with criminal histories in accordance with state and local fair-chance laws.
- CA Driver License and Auto Insurance.
- CPR/First Aid Certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
