Overview

The Student Space Gallery Manager (SSGM) directly supports the Student Space Gallery program by providing overall supervision to five student galleries on MICA’s campus, including Bunting, Gateway 1 & 2, The Great White Wall, Lazarus 1 Gallery, and.

Responsibilities

• Advising (40%) – Assist with installations, provide guidance to artists, deliver feedback to non‑selected artists, and advise applicants as needed.
• Operations (25%) – Prepare gallery space for exhibitions and receptions, maintain cleanliness and safety of artwork, track attendance, and understand MICA Exhibition policy and procedures.
• Marketing & Recruitment (25%) – Promote exhibitions through social media, print publications, flyers, and prospectuses; digitize and archive past exhibitions; collaborate with another SSGM; communicate with the Exhibitions Department.
• Other (10%) – Organize jury hiring and meetings, facilitate artist talks, and support other programs as directed by the Associate Director of Student Engagement.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled MICA undergraduate student.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and time‑management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
• Ability to deliver constructive feedback and assist with exhibition install/de‑install.
• Preferred: previous gallery or exhibition experience, curatorial experience, and peer‑advising experience.

Compensation

$15.00 per hour. 4–8 hours per week, including a minimum of three office hours per week and a weekly 1‑hour meeting with the Associate Director of Student Engagement.

Conditions of Employment

• Flexible office days and hours to accommodate student schedules.
• Required training: transition meeting (May and late August), Joint Student Leader Training (late August), and Jury Training & Selection Meeting (October and March).
• Student employees may work no more than 20 hours per week across all on‑campus positions.

Physical Demands

Occasional standing, walking, sitting, use of hands to manipulate objects, lifting up to 15 pounds, and visual acuity for close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment are required.
