Job summary

Marqeta is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering for the Risk, Fraud and Disputes pod to lead the Identity Platform. You will own the end‑to‑end identity verification lifecycle, scale backend systems, and collaborate with regulatory and enterprise stakeholders to deliver compliant, extensible solutions.

You will mentor engineers, drive AI‑first automation, and partner with cross‑functional teams to shape the platform roadmap.

Qualifications

• Experienced engineering leader with 8–10+ years in engineering and 3+ years managing senior/staff engineers.
• Deep backend engineering expertise with ability to design and scale backend systems.
• Breadth across the stack, delivering across multiple product lines and paradigms.
• Operational excellence and incident management with blameless post‑mortems.
• Hands‑on AI‑first mindset to improve velocity, automation, and reduce manual work.
• Strong ownership mentality and thrive in ambiguity, taking responsibility for outcomes.
• Comfortable engaging with enterprise customers/regulators and translating decisions for non‑technical stakeholders.
• Excellent communicator capable of leading cross‑functional initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and execution of the Identity Platform.
• Build and operate systems covering CIP, CDD, KYB, and screening workflows.
• Drive AI‑first automation to reduce manual reviews and increase efficiency.
• Mentor and grow a high‑performing engineering team and improve velocity.
• Partner with Risk, Compliance, Product, Operations, and Legal to shape the roadmap.
