Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking an Identity Management Specialist to support authentication, authorization, and access provisioning for campus users and services. You will work within the Identity and Access Management Support (IAMS) unit of SIS to ensure policy-based access to university resources and to resolve user access issues.

The role emphasizes security, confidentiality, customer service, and collaboration with IT teams across campus.

Qualifications

• Experience with Identity Management concepts and processes including authorization, authentication, segregation of duties, etc.
• Knowledge of access control systems with respect to Oracle Databases, Active Directory, Exchange, LDAP, etc.
• Experience using an ITSM tool such as ServiceNow
• Demonstrated discretion while handling confidential or personal data
• Excellent customer service skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Job Description

The Identity Management Specialist reports to the Manager, Identity and Access Management Support (IAMS). IAMS is a unit within the Secure Identity Services (SIS) department in the Division of Information Technology. The Identity Management Specialist provides service to the university community by facilitating identity and access needs of the Virginia Tech community and protects university and user data by ensuring correct authentication and authorization for end-users and services. Using University and IT policies and procedures provides access to university resources based on users’ attributes, affiliations, and roles. Password resets, facilitating and troubleshooting user access issues, validating and verifying authorization requests, facilitating approval flows, and provisioning/deprovisioning of user accounts and entitlements are all common activities. Contributes to functional requirements for IAMS business processes and administrative tools.
