Job summary

Vercel is seeking an engineer on theAgent Auth and Identity team to design and operate authentication, authorization, and identity systems for agents and people. You will own systems end-to-end, building secure APIs and SDKs and shaping OAuth/OIDC-related flows.

This hybrid role is based in San Francisco, with in-office days Monday, Tuesday and Friday, collaborating across teams to improve security, reliability, and developer experience while shipping scalable identity services.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating backend systems in production at scale.
• Solid understanding of authentication and authorization concepts, such as sessions, tokens, OAuth/OIDC flows, and permission models.
• A security-minded approach to engineering: threat modeling, least privilege, and failure modes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate identity, authentication, and authorization systems powering Vercel for people and agents.
• Shape how agents prove identity, act on behalf of users, and receive scoped, time-bound access.
• Build secure, scalable APIs, services, and SDKs for developers and agents to adopt.
• Work with standards like OAuth 2.x, OIDC, and agent-focused protocols; influence their direction.
• Lead end-to-end projects: identify opportunities, set direction, deliver improvements in security and reliability.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the reliability of critical systems.
