Job summary

PI (Physik Instrumente), LP in Shrewsbury, MA is seeking a skilled ID/OD Precision Grinder to support prototype and low-volume production with strict tolerances. The role operates on a Monday–Friday schedule in our advanced manufacturing grinding department.

The ideal candidate has experience in precision ID/OD grinding and a strong ability to read engineering drawings, interpret blueprints, and maintain quality standards while contributing to lean initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with machining and grinding concepts, techniques, and strategies.
• Ability to read and accurately interpret blueprints and related work instructions.
• Working knowledge of grinding fundamentals (gained through experience and training).
• Ability to work self-sufficiently with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs as needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods of time during scheduled shifts.

Responsibilities

• Operate cylindrical grinding and ensure precision ID/OD grinding.
• Transform single piece prototypes to low-volume production parts with tight tolerances.
• Conduct in-process and final inspections to ensure specifications and print tolerances are met.
• Interpret engineering drawings and process parts independently with minimal supervision.
• Maintain alignment with production schedules, cost objectives, and quality standards.
• Apply 5S and lean manufacturing principles in compliance with ISO 9001 standards.
