Job summary

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital seeks a Veterinary Care Generalist for the Intermediate Care Ward. The role includes supervising veterinary and tech students, delivering nursing care, and supporting diagnostics and emergency procedures in a high-activity teaching environment.

The position is 100% full-time Civil Service with a starting hourly wage of $23.71. Candidates must complete an AVMA-accredited program and may pursue domestic certification.

Qualifications

• Successful completion or current enrollment in the final semester of a veterinary technology program accredited by the AVMA.
• Illinois Veterinary Technician Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• Familiar with federal regulations and university policies regarding controlled substances.
• Ability to instruct veterinary students and technicians in patient care protocol and equipment use.

Responsibilities

• Provide standard paramedical nursing care and patient support in ICU, intermediate care, and isolation wards.
• Assist with emergent and non-emergent patient care using problem-solving skills.
• Perform and monitor clinical procedures, including injections, venipuncture, catheter placement, and sample submission.
• Record treatments and charges in the EMR and maintain patient care plans.
