Job summary

Michigan State University’s Veterinary Medical Center seeks an ICU Veterinary Assistant for a full-time role. You will assist animal patients, monitor vitals, IV fluids, process lab samples and medication orders, and help clinicians, technicians and students in the Small Animal Emergency Medicine Unit.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and 6–12 months of related veterinary experience, strong record-keeping and basic computer skills; lifting up to 50 lbs is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6–12 months of related veterinary experience or training.
• Ability to document accurately and use basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist animal patients and monitor vitals (temp, pulse, respiration).
• Monitor IV fluids and assist with medication orders.
• Process lab samples and enter charges in the hospital information system.
• Assist clinicians, veterinary technicians, and clinical students in the ICU unit.
• Walk animals outside and maintain clean, stocked ward areas.
