Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University is seeking an ICU Technician for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The role supports indirect and direct patient care, handling equipment, transports, and routine tasks within the NICU.

Must have a High School diploma or GED and at least one year of ICU patient care experience; BLS within 30 days; 12-lead ECG and CBG QC within 6 months. Day shift, full-time with competitive benefits.

Department Overview

Doernbecher Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 46-bed level IV, regional referral center, providing care for a patient population of critically ill, convalescing and growing premature and term newborns. Admissions come from our own high-risk perinatal department, as well as transports from other hospitals in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Hawaii.

Department Specific Working Conditions

Provide continuing care and monitoring of NICU patients in locations outside of the NICU including MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Upper GI, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, etc. This position also comes with great benefits! Function/Duties of Position

Indirect care:Maintains the patient care area.Cleans equipment and area in conjunction with environmental services.Keeps dirty utility rooms clean and free of debris and excess suppliesDistributes linen and supplies.Transports specimens, equipment and medications.Answer phones with multiple lines; transfer callsMaintains awareness of equipment operation and reports broken or missingequipment per OHSU standards.Orders supply as necessary.Restock gloves.Stocks patient areas and carts as needed or as directed.Order equipment: inventory equipment and supplies.Customer ServicesResponds promptly to customer needs.Handles workload and customer queries with patience and empathy, doesnot let work pressure reflect on how our customers are treated.Treats customers with courtesy and respect.Contributes to a professional work environment.Patient CareObserves all infection prevention guidelines.Provides for safety; bed in low position, side rails, items within reach,identified hazards and assistance.Provides and maintain needed comfort measures e.g. blankets, pillows,holding, etc.Greets visitors and family members and provides information within unit defined standards.Assists RN with patient transports patient to various locations within thehospital.Assists RNs, providers, and other health care team members as needed.Assists with ADLs (diaper changes and enteral feedings of stable neonates) Assist with feeding patients with stable neonates Empty foley bags and changes suction canistersAssist with bathing patientsPatient Care: RN Delegated duties:Capillary Blood Glucose (CBG)Repositioning/Mobility: Under supervision of the RN, assists with safepatient mobilization using aids, as directed, for safety and notifies thenurse of additional needs. Performs or assists with proper and safe patient lifts, transfers, turns and positioning. Assures patient maintains good body alignment, comfort, range of motion (ROM), and support.12 lead ECGAssists with hygiene needs as directed by the RNOther Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GEDOne-year recent experience (within the past 5 years) providing patient care in an ICU or similar setting. One year of recent OHSU Lift Team experience in the ICU setting will substitute for the patient care experience.12-lead EKG, CBG QC compliance, and Rehab training completion will be required within 6 months of hire.Positions within person patient care: BLS certificate within 30 days of hire or prior to independent practice, whichever comes first.
