Department Overview

The Cardiovascular ICU strives to educate, advocate and provide the highest level of nursing care to our patients and families, and to ensure positive patient outcomes through evidence-based nursing practice, all within the setting of a healthy work environment. The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach in the care and recovery of adult cardiac surgery and cardiology patients as well as surgical recovery for Vascular, ENT, Plastics, Ortho, Urology and OB: 40kg weight minimum, age generally not less than 16 years with no upper age limit.

Function/Duties of Position

Salary: $55.24 - $92.02 per hour, based on RN Degree and level of experience

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Role]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN's engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. Required Qualifications
  • 2 years Critical Care RN experience
  • ADN or BSN in Nursing from a program accredited by CCNE, ACEN or CNEA 30 days before start date.
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS and ACLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) - must not expire during orientation
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

  • 1 year Cardiac Critical Care RN experience
  • CCRN certification
  • Open heart surgery recovery experience
  • IABP
  • Impella
  • Durable ventricular assist device
Additional Details

Length of Orientation Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
