Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking an RN Supervisor (Clinician) for the ICU RN Float Pool on the night shift. The role leads nursing staff, provides direct patient care when needed, and reports to the Nurse Manager.

Requires active NY RN license and BLS certification, with 2+ years acute care experience and preferred unit specialty certifications. Responsibilities include supervising the unit, developing care plans within the first eight hours, and ensuring timely documentation and staff

Qualifications

• Experience: At least two (2) years post-licensure acute care experience in nursing.
• Two (2) years of experience in area of specialization is preferred.
• Education: Graduation from a National League of Nursing Accredited School of Nursing.
• Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• BCLS certification required.
• Unit specific specialty certification preferred.
• License: Current license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.
• As part of the onboarding process, we require a copy of your current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• If your BLS certification is set to expire within 90 days of your start date, you will be scheduled to attend a BLS training session during your nursing orientation.
• Only licensed nurse experience in an acute care facility will be counted towards experience.
• Acute care is defined as medical services provided for illnesses that are short-term, intense, and have a relatively severe course.

Responsibilities

• Assumes Charge RN role, provides supervision to nursing staff, and addresses staff performance.
• Delivers nursing care to all assigned patients and develops initial nursing assessments.
• Reviews and revises plans of care as patient conditions change, at least every 24 hours.
• Prepares daily patient care assignments based on needs and staff credentials.
• Administers medications and treatments per physician orders.
• Documents patient education and ensures consistency with physician instructions.
• Preceptor role in orientation of nursing staff and students.
• Provides direct patient care as a role model and resource when needed.
• Monitors nursing care quality and documents nursing process.
• Completes yearly evaluations and competencies with nurse manager involvement.
