Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine seeks an RN Supervisor (Clinician) for ICU RN Float Pool to lead a shift and supervise staff. The role may provide direct patient care in addition to clinical leadership and teaching. Strong acute care experience and NYS RN licensure are required, with BLS and unit-specific certs preferred.

The position is full-time, night shift, with responsibilities spanning patient care, supervision, and adherence to medical regimens within a high-acuity ICU float pool.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years post-licensure acute care experience.
• Graduation from a National League of Nursing Accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• BLS certification required; unit-specific certifications preferred.
• Current license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.

Responsibilities

• Assumes Charge RN role on unit; provides supervision to nursing staff.
• Delivers nursing care to all assigned patients.
• Allocates daily patient care assignments based on staff capabilities.
• Administers medications and treatments per physician orders.
• Documents patient/family teaching and ensures alignment with physician instructions.
• Preceptor role in orientation of nursing personnel; documents competencies.
• Provides direct patient care as needed and serves as a role model and resource.
• Monitors quality of nursing care and documentation.
• Completes yearly evaluations and competencies with nurse manager.
