Job summary

Bechtel is seeking an ICSS Automation Specialist for Houston, TX. The role covers design, development, commissioning, and testing of ICSS, including DCS, SIS, FGS, and PLC systems, in collaboration with engineers across disciplines.

You will lead design and testing activities, manage vendor selections, and ensure compliance with IEC 61511 standards. Travel may be required for commissioning and startup, domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated success in ICSS design, development, and/or commissioning with multiple platforms.
• Experience with IEC 61511 SIS standards and configurable I/O platforms.
• Knowledge of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC, HART, and wireless field networks.
• Strong communication and mentoring capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed automation work for control systems.
• Provide functional oversight of ICSS within project teams.
• Lead ICSS design for process control, safety, FGS, and networking.
• Develop system requisitions, evaluate bids, and recommend ICSS selections.
• Coordinate design reviews with project, supervisors, and management.
• Audit ICSS activities to ensure plans and procedures are followed.
• Support commissioning and startup, including SAT and loop checks.
• Maintain records of hardware/software changes and backups.
• Issue RFIs and field change notices between site, contractors, and home office.
• Explain complex issues to management and propose practical solutions.
