Legends Global - Toyota Arena in Ontario, CA, is seeking an Ice Technician Supervisor to oversee ice surface quality for all events, including AHL games, practices, and community programs. You will lead the Ice Operations team, coordinate with facilities, and ensure safety, ice integrity, and operational efficiency.

The role requires extensive ice maintenance experience, leadership, and knowledge of Zamboni equipment, refrigeration and BAS systems.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of professional ice maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervising an ice operations team.
  • Extensive knowledge of AHL/NHL ice standards and arena operations.
  • Experience operating Olympia and/or Zamboni ice resurfacing equipment.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems, HVAC, dehumidification, and ice-making processes.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during NHL season and events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all daily ice operations for AHL games, practices, public skating, and events.
  • Maintain AHL-caliber ice conditions through resurfacing, edging, painting, flooding, chipping, and temperature management.
  • Operate and maintain Zamboni ice resurfacing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Manage arena ice refrigeration systems, brine/glycol temperatures, humidity readings, and environmental monitoring.
  • Coordinate ice-side conversions between hockey, soccer, basketball, concerts, and other events while protecting ice integrity.
  • Develop preventative maintenance schedules for ice maintenance equipment and coordinate repairs.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate Ice Technicians and Ice Crew members.
  • Maintain inventory of ice-related supplies and tools.
  • Monitor weather and building systems to optimize ice quality year-round.
  • Collaborate with officials and team personnel to ensure playing surface compliance.
  • Ensure OSHA and environmental safety standards are met.

Position Summary:

The Ice Technician Supervisor is responsible for the overall quality, safety, and performance of the ice surface within a professional AHL arena. This position oversees all aspects of ice installation, maintenance, and removal while leading a team of ice technicians to ensure world-class playing conditions for AHL games, practices, special events, and community programming. The Ice Technician Supervisor works closely with the Facilities Manager on hockey operations, event operations, ice plant engineering, and equipment management to maintain the highest standards of ice quality and operational efficiency.

Please note that the Toyota Arena employees are covered by a collective bargaining agreement with Unite Here Local 11, and a condition of employment is a union membership.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Lead all daily ice operations for AHL games, practices, public skating, and special events.
  • Maintain AHL-caliber ice conditions through resurfacing, edging, painting, flooding, chipping, and temperature management.
  • Operate and maintain Zamboni ice resurfacing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Manage arena ice refrigeration systems, brine/glycol temperatures, humidity readings, and overall environmental monitoring.
  • Coordinate the ice-side of conversions between hockey, soccer, basketball, concerts, and other entertainment events while protecting the integrity of the ice floor.
  • Develop preventative maintenance schedules for all ice maintenance equipment and coordinate repairs.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate Ice Technicians and Ice Crew members.
  • Maintain inventory of paint, water treatment, Zamboni blades, tools, and operational supplies.
  • Monitor weather conditions and building environmental systems to optimize ice quality year-round.
  • Collaborate with AHL officials, team personnel, coaches, and league representatives to ensure playing surface compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, and organizational safety policies.
  • Assist with emergency response and after-hours facility operations as needed.
  • Prepare operational ice reports, maintenance logs, and equipment documentation.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the Ice Operations team.
  • Foster a culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and training programs.
  • Lead ice operations conversions including laying and removal of carpet runners and building of pre/post-game locker rooms.
  • Assist coordination of staffing levels based on arena schedules and event demands.
  • Maintain ice thickness between 1.0 and 1.5 inches per AHL player safety standards and arena efficiency.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
Required:
  • 5-10 Years of professional ice maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervising and ice operations team.
  • Extensive knowledge of AHL/NHL ice standards and arena operations.
  • Experience operating and maintaining Olympia and/or Zamboni ice resurfacing equipment.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems, HVAC, dehumidification, and ice-making processes.
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during NHL season and special events.
Desirable:
  • Valid C.I.T. Certification from the U.S. Ice Rink Association or ORFA.
  • Experience working in an NHL, AHL, NCAA, Division 1, or major ice event venue.
  • Refrigeration or HVAC certification.
  • OSHA 10 pr OSHA 30 certification.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
License/Certificate:
  • Valid California Driver’s License
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
  • Expert understanding of ice science and environmental controls
  • Strong leadership and employee development skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Ability to make critical operational decisions under tight event timelines
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Working knowledge of building automation systems (BAS).
  • Strong problem-solving and preventative maintenance mindset.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Tasks are performed with moderate supervision without assistance for 40% of the workday; pushing and pulling doors open, lifting, stooping, bending and lifting at least 50 lbs. Walking for long distances for more than 50% of workday. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours. Employees may be scheduled to work until 12:00am or later. Must be able to pass the background.
  • Employee should use precautions & follow safety guidelines.
