McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park is seeking an Ice Operations Manager to lead daily operations, maintenance, and staff development for the city’s premier ice venue.

You will supervise front-line managers, coordinate events, ensure safety and policy compliance, and partner with park leadership to deliver outstanding public skating experiences.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience as an ice resurfacer operator.
• 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role in operational management.
• 1+ years of facility maintenance experience preferred.
• CIT Certification preferred.
• Must have excellent interpersonal, project management and problem-solving skills.
• Must be a team player.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Must be able to work flexible schedules including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Oversees front-line managers and supervisors to ensure compliance with SFM policies and applicable laws.
• Manage daily ice venue operations, including maintenance, scheduling, and facility management.
• Train and develop ice resurfacer operators to ensure safe ice cuts.
• Maintain ice surface quality and address issues promptly.
• Coordinate setup and teardown of events, including hockey games, public skating sessions, and private rentals.
• Communicate with event or rental owners pre and post event.
• Participate in planning/strategic meetings.
• Assist with labor law compliance and safety adherence.
• Be on-site as needed and oversee personnel and production management.
• Understand rental agreements, operational aims and revenue streams.
• Ensure health & safety, quality control, expense management, and security protocols.
• Conduct regular facility inspections for cleanliness and safety.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff for repairs/upgrades.
• Oversee cash handling procedures.
• Assist with venue sales and business development.
• Support hiring, training, and education of staff on safety procedures.
• Monitor team schedule.
• Assist in budgets and expense management.
• Promote company culture and expectations to staff.
• Contribute to Facility Business Plan and execution.
• Approve rentals operationally.
• Oversee inventory reporting.
• Serve as MOD as needed.
• Handle other tasks as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Ice Operations Manager will be responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the facility. This position provides direction, training and development opportunities to front-line supervisors and part-time staff. This role will work closely with outside leaders to successfully accomplish these responsibilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Oversees front-line managers/supervisors to ensure compliance with SFM policies and additional applicable laws
• Supervise and coordinate daily operations of the ice venue, including ice maintenance, scheduling, and facility management
• Trains and develops ice resurfacer operators to ensure safe and clean ice cuts
• Ensure the ice surface is properly maintained, including ice resurfacing, checking for quality, and addressing any issues promptly
• Oversee the setup and teardown of events, including hockey games, public skating sessions, and private rentals
• Oversee effective communications with event or rental owners pre and post event
• Participates in planning/strategic meetings
• Assists with labor law compliance and adherence
• Be on-site as needed and take responsibility for the various aspects of managing personnel and production
• Builds an overall understanding of the rental agreements in the company portfolio, their operational aims, and their revenue streams
• Ensures all guidelines are being met pertaining to health & safety, quality control, expense management, security, procedures, and facility maintenance
• Conduct regular inspections of the facility to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with health and safety regulations
• Coordinate with maintenance staff to address any repairs or upgrades needed for the facility and equipment
• Oversees proper cash handling procedures
• Assist with venue sales and business development
• Supports hiring, training, and education of staff on proper safety procedures
• Monitors team schedule
• Assists in developing and managing budgets, and exercises control in expense management and facility maintenance
• Promotes company culture and expectations to staff
• Contributes to Facility Business Plan and execution
• Gives final operational approval for rentals
• Oversees proper reporting of inventory
• Serves as MOD as needed
• All additional tasks assigned by management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3-5 years of experience as an ice resurfacer operator required
• 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role in operational management required
• 1 or more years of facility maintenance experience preferred
• CIT Certification preferred
• Must have excellent interpersonal, project management and problem-solving skills
