Job summary

Malai is hiring a Pastry Assistant to help with ice cream production, ingredient prep, baking and cone making in a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen.

You will follow recipes, assist with production schedules, ensure hygiene, and support deliveries and storage using FIFO. Candidates should have NYC Food Handler license or obtain within 2 weeks, be able to stand and lift up to 50 lbs, and commit weekends; 18+ and authorized to work in the US.

Qualifications

• Proven experience assisting in fast paced kitchens.
• NYC issued Food Handlers license, or willing to obtain one within 2 weeks of being hired.
• Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
• The ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• The ability to work in a team and positive attitude.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Must have Weekend availability.
• Must be 18 years of age or older and authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities

• Follows and assists the Kitchen Manager, Assistant Kitchen Manager, and Kitchen Leads in all areas of production, including ice cream, desserts, cones and ingredient preparation.
• Produces ice cream according to the daily production schedule.
• Follows recipes and production protocols explicitly, carefully weighing and measuring all ingredients as specified to the gram.
• Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
• Assisting with the picking up, and unloading of deliveries from food supplies.
• Organizing and correctly storing food supplies, using FIFO.
• Take ownership over completion of your tasks as assigned by Managers as well as helping others complete theirs quickly and effectively.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
