Job summary

The City of Ames is seeking an Ice Arena Shift Leader to supervise cashiers, enforce arena rules, and help manage daily operations from opening to closing. You will work a varied schedule, including days, evenings and weekends, during the November 2026 – January 2027 period.

Ideal candidates have recreational supervisory experience, strong cash handling and customer service skills, and the ability to lead staff, handle emergencies, and maintain a safe, clean facility while using POS software.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age and recreational or related supervisory experience.
• Experience with cash handling and customer service is preferred.
• Ability to lead, delegate tasks and communicate professionally with the public.

Responsibilities

• Perform opening and closing procedures (unlock/lock, POS startup, lights).
• Complete routine equipment checks and maintain facility safety and cleanliness.
• Enforce rules to ensure a safe, well‑run arena.
• Understand and use POS/Pass Management software and other required software.
• Delegate facility duties to Cashiers and supervise staff on shift.
• Complete nightly cash deposits and assist with event staffing as needed.
• Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and maintain professional conduct on site.
• Assist with concession duties and vendor coordination as applicable.
