Job summary

City of Dearborn Career Opportunities is seeking a part-time employee to assist at the Dearborn Ice Skating Center in Dearborn, MI.

The role supports arena operations, enforces safety, may fill in at snack bar, acts as scorekeeper, and may work in Pro Shop as needed. Schedule: 10–20 hours weekly; evenings and weekends. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and able to maintain reliable attendance.

Job Location: Dearborn Ice Skating Center - Dearborn, MI 48126

Position Type: Part Time

Salary Range: $15.00 Hourly

MINIMUM AGE: 16 years of age

HOURS OF WORK: 10 to 20 hours per week

Monday - Friday, 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Weekends - any shift between 8:00 a.m. & 10:00 p.m.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

An employee in this class performs a wide variety of duties related to the operation and maintenance of the Dearborn Ice Skating Center. The employee assists in the general maintenance of the Arena; enforces safety on the ice; must be willing to fill in at the Snack Bar; act as scorekeeper for hockey games; work in Pro Shop when needed. Work is performed under close supervision, however as the employee gains experience in Arena operations, the level of duties and responsibility increase.

QualificationsSPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• The ability to ice skate is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability and willingness to perform routine tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of a municipal ice arena.


• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.


• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other employees and the general public.


• Some mechanical ability.


• Ability and experience in scorekeeping hockey games.


• Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE:

POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:

Satisfactory completion of a criminal background (sex offender registry if applicable) and a drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law prior to start date.
