Job summary

Avera Health is seeking a dedicated IC/DC coder to assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and PCS procedures for inpatient charts across facilities. You will ensure accurate DRG coding and collaborate with physicians to maximize documentation quality.

The role emphasizes adherence to AHIMA guidelines, with opportunities for mentoring colleagues and advancing coding expertise within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• CCS, CDIP, RHIT, CCA or RHIA credentials required within 180 days of hire.
• AHIMA credentials preferred for clinical coding accuracy.
• Ability to abstract and code inpatient charts accurately.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical docs to assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and PCS codes.
• Identify DRG classification based on chart data and payer rules.
• Query physicians to ensure full capture of the record for coding accuracy.
• Mentor/consult with coding staff as needed and meet quality targets.
