Job summary

NRI, Inc. seeks an experienced AS400 Developer/Admin to support a core IBM AS/400 (IBM i/iSeries) environment on a long-term contract. You will handle legacy application development, database management, and system administration, with modernizing initiatives as needed.

The role emphasizes hands-on work with RPGLE/RPG IV, CL/CLLE, SQL, DB2 for i, and FTP/SFTP, plus IBM i admin tasks. Hybrid schedule is approx. 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Experience in IBM AS/400 or IBM i environments and legacy apps.
• Hands-on with RPGLE/RPG IV, CL/CLLE, SQL, and DB2 for i.
• Knowledge of FTP/SFTP and IBM i system administration.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize legacy applications in RPG, RPG III, RPG IV/ILE RPG, RPGLE, and CL.
• Investigate issues, batch problems, and user-reported system issues.
• Modify logic for regulatory/licensing changes and business processes.
• Coordinate with hosting providers for OS patching and environment changes.
• Manage security, user profiles, and object-level authority.
• Review QAUDJRN and maintain system integrity.
• Manage job queues, subsystems, and scheduling.
• Coordinate backups, DR testing, and restoration verification.
• Query and optimize DB2 for i databases; tune SQL and indexes.
• Support secure FTP/SFTP file transfers and data exports.
• Maintain interfaces between AS400 and partner systems.
• Work with DBAs and cloud architects to extract/archive legacy data.
• Document application flows, DB structures, and dependencies.
• Assist in transitioning legacy processes to cloud-based environments.
