Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking an International Board-C certified Lactation Consultant to enhance lactation care in both in- and outpatient settings. You will educate families, provide consultations, and collaborate with the care team to plan discharge and follow-up care.

Responsibilities include initial assessments, breastfeeding education, and mentoring students while upholding safety, evidence-based practice, and organizational guidelines.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree required.
• Must be International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant with two years of inpatient experience or equivalent preferred.
• Must have Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial assessment using interviewing, observation and physical assessment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to develop plans of care for breastfeeding families.
• Provide lactation education and serve as mentor for Lactation students.
• Assist via telephone warmline with information, counseling and referrals as needed.
• Promote Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and evidence-based breastfeeding practices.
• Demonstrate clinical judgment, documentation and patient-family communication.
• Ensure safety and adherence to regulatory standards in patient care.
