Job description

The I&E Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems, and electrical equipment in and around the plant/pipeline. The I&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection, calibration, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of all electronic and electrical plant equipment and systems. This position is located in Watford City, ND. Level and salary commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Perform and document maintenance, calibration, installation, fault diagnosis, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems
  2. Calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair plant instrumentation such as transmitters, analyzers, control valves, switches, relays, etc.
  3. Inspect, repair, and remove all types of generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems
  4. Implement safe work practices and participate in a proactive safety culture to ensure safety for employees, the public, and the environment at all times
  5. Work with a wide variety of instruments including pH, conductivity, ultrasonic, guided wave radar, mass flow, pressure transducers, RTDs, etc.
  6. Operate MCCs, high voltage (4160v switchgear), and Allen Bradley VFDs
  7. Maintain files, logs, and drawings for all designated instrumentation and electrical equipment
  8. Handle programming of automation systems (PLC and DCS)
  9. Maintain instrumentation and electrical spare parts inventory to ensure plant reliability
  10. Assist engineers and managers in conducting tests
  11. Assist with quality control programs and data recording
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Valid driver’s license
  3. Must be at least 21 years old for Company motor vehicle insurance
  4. Candidate must live within a 50-mile commuting radius of Watford City, ND
  5. Accreditation of an Instrument or Electrical Technician program
  6. 3 years work experience as a Technician in a related industry
  7. Understanding of Piping and Instrument Diagrams, Signal Flow Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Panel Drawings, One‐Line Drawings, Loop Sheets, and Wire Lists
  8. Knowledge of NEC framework (electrical classification)
  9. Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, and ability to learn company-specific programs
  10. Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals)
  11. Ability to exercise independent judgment prior to consultation with supervisor
  12. Ability to provide solutions quickly and accurately even in stressful situations
  13. Ability to comply with DOT Regulations
  14. Willingness to work all shifts/schedules as needed, including scheduled on-call weekends
  15. Adaptability to changing situations and handling competing demands with flexibility
  16. Ability to work well with others and be self-directed with only general supervision
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  1. Ability to handle exposure to noise, extreme weather conditions, and areas with hazardous chemicals
  2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, kneel, stoop, sit, and walk extensively
  3. Ability to successfully complete a post-offer/pre-employment drug screen, background check, physical, functional capacity examination, and meet all physical requirements of the job

Preferred Qualifications
  1. 5 years of experience as an I&E Technician
  2. Accreditation of an Instrument or Electrical Technician program
  3. Associates degree in instrumentation, controls, or electrical technology
  4. Current valid electrical license for the State
  5. PLC programming skills for various architectures
  6. Mathematical and scientific aptitude with patience for complex problems
