Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Solid Propulsion Development Engineer to lead the design and development of propulsion hardware for hypersonic and related programs. You will coordinate with interdisciplinary teams and subcontractors to advance solid propulsion systems for civil, military, and commercial space initiatives.

The role requires a strong background in rocket propulsion, hands-on testing, and clear technical communication to stakeholders.

Qualifications

ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or other STEM field.
Minimum of 8 years in rocket propulsion development or test engineering; 6 years with a Master’s.
Understanding of solid rocket motor design and performance requirements.
Experience planning for and supporting ground testing of solid propulsion systems (thermal, environmental, static firing).
Ability to conduct trade studies and develop analysis/evaluation tools.
Knowledge of applicable standards and regulations for manufacturing and testing.
Excellent technical reporting and presentation skills to multi-disciplinary teams and customer stakeholders.
Must reside in the North Alabama area or relocate to Huntsville – North Alabama, AL.
Active security clearance (Secret), with ability to obtain Top Secret if needed.

Responsibilities

Serve as lead technical engineer for design and development of propulsion hardware.
Design, build, and test prototype solid rocket motor components.
Understand and negotiate design elements with propulsion system suppliers.
